There are some utilities that you just can’t live without; for me the Windows world just does not feel complete without Taskbar Shuffle.

Not long ago Firefox started behaving in a manner of which annoyed me, I had no time to research the issue at the time so I jumped on the Google Chrome band wagon and really have not looked back since. BUT recently I been wanting to use Firefox due to the Firebug extension. Firebug exist in Google Chrome but docking does not work (known issue) therefore on a single display it’s pretty much useless.
So after doing a Google search and trying all the proposed solutions I still had Firefox consuming well over 50% of my CPU and the UI was simply slow to respond. I did also install Safari and other browsers and thou their UI responded normally they still consumed quite a bit of CPU processing power.
By default I turn Windows Automatic Updates off due to the fact that not all updates are good updates. one thing I noticed was that the last update I did was back in 08 so I figured any updates I install would been well tested by now. So I installed the latest updates not quite sure why but Firefox is now operating normally and consuming the normal amount of system resources. Also the other browsers now such as Safari and Opera no longer consume large amounts of CPU power. So there you have it hopefully it works for you as well.
One of the worst business practices a food stand/restaurant can employ is to sell a meal without explicitly notifying the customer that drink is not included. Honestly why fool the customer to thinking they are getting a meal and at the last minute throw in “Anything to drink?”. There is no better way to build resentment towards your business then to implement such practice. Today I experience this practice with Quizno’s my breakfast was $4.79 and at the last minute I added a coffee for an additional $2.00.
Currently I am flying with Southwest, last time I flew with Continental they charged me $25 for my bag at the very last minute of checking in. Yes, I did have to drive out of my way to take Southwest today but the point is that Continentals last minute “Gotcha” gave my business to Southwest for who knows how long.
I recommend those business that implement such practices to either adjust the prices to include the drink or make it known that the meal does not include a drink because conning people with such practice hurts your business.
For a free FTP Server solution for Windows you can not go wrong with FileZilla. I have used it for years and it’s proven it self not only to be reliable but flexible. Both the FTP Server and Client software are provided free of charge. If you do end up using their software please make a donation these guys are continuously releasing new versions of the software and the upgrade process each time is nothing more then a few clicks of the mouse.
Now back to our regular programming
In the process of doing some GUI enhancements on an existing application I recalled wanting to implement some round corners on the submit buttons. They are to appear round, colorful and match the application theme.
It’s Jan 10th and I still have not sat down and thought about what I would like to do this year; normally I do this before the new year rolls in but I been slacking. last year I posted my goals on a yellow notepad but during the spring cleaning that yellow notepad was discarded, so against common wisdom I’m going to post them here. The good thing is that I can update them as I complete them or add more if need be.
For the past month or so I been trying to configure my Dell Axim X51 to Sync with my new Vista Home Premium laptop. I looked at hundreds of threads to the point I gave up and figured I used my desktop machine for development and testing when it came to mobile device development, that is all I use my Dell Axim X51 for.
hMailServer is a great mail server substitution for the built in IIS SMTP server, I used it for years without a problem and best of all it practically free. The other day I configured the “WordPress-Ready Contact Form v.2.0WP” on a blog. I tested the form and it indicated the email was sent but I was not receiving the emails. So I opened up the hMailServer Administrator tool and clicked the “Status” list item on the left then the “Logging” tab and fired of the logging by clicking on the “Start” button.
Just recently I upgraded this blog to WordPress 2.6; the setup went well and I was able to post without a problem then today something strange happened with my McDonals $2.89 special post; I kept getting the following error message.
"The server reported an error with the following URL:
http://www.your_domain_name.com/xmlrpc.php
500 Internal Server Error"
